Electronic Delivery Solution of Pathology Results to Parties External to WA Health Department

PathWest Laboratory Medicine WA (PathWest) delivers pathology results electronically to external parties across metropolitan and regional WA using an in-house developed solution called PathWest Direct (PWD). PWD was first implemented in the early 2000s and has gone through a few minor upgrades since then. The application has proven to be a robust engine for the electronic delivery of results to external clients, however it is not able to meet the current demands and expectations of our client base.
Additionally, since 2012, expectations from external customers for a more flexible solution have increased, including elements such as support for cloud-based GP systems, and a portal for viewing results on mobile devices.
The end users of the PWD service are varied, and the ~1400 current recipients include:
• General medical practitioners;
• Healthcare specialists;
• Private pathology providers;
• Government agencies such as the Department of Justice;
• Private mining companies; and
• Companies conducting clinical trials.
Through this procurement process, PathWest (the Customer) is seeking to procure a solution for Electronic Delivery of Pathology Results to Parties External to the WA Health Department.
The Customer’s preference is for the solution to be delivered as Software as a Service (SaaS) in a hosting environment provided by the Contractor; however, where this is not possible, the Customer will consider hosting the solution on WA Health managed infrastructure and platforms on the internal Department of Health network.
