Electrical Demand Verification

The Queensland State Government, through the Department of Innovation, Tourism Industry Development and the Commonwealth Games (DITID), has allocated funding to supply power and water to Great Keppel Island (GKI) which is located in the Southern Great Barrier Reef, off the coast of Yeppoon in Queensland, Australia.

One of the options being considered is to install a submarine HV connection from the mainland near Yeppoon across the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park to GKI. The services corridor proposed, which is approximately 16km in length, from Ritamada Road, Yeppoon to the future Marine Precinct, Great Keppel Island, can be seen in Appendix Q attached. The HV subsea cable is required to be buried a minimum of 2m below the substrate, which is mostly sand.

DITID wishes to engage an Electrical Services Engineer to undertake feasibility and load assessments for the provision of the new high voltage power supply cable.

The scope of the works includes:

• Assessment of the Island’s load growth profile over the development period in accordance with the provided staging plan, refer to “GKI RFQ00 Load Tables.xlsx” for details of staging
• Liaison with the Electrical Services Network Services Provider (Ergon) for the following:
  • The provision of a suitable point of supply connection on the mainland
  • The provision and location of metering facilities (mainland or GKI)
• Provision of an electrical power submarine cable from the mainland point of connection to suitable location on Great Keppel Island
• Provision of a high voltage incoming Main Substation on GKI, incorporating incoming switchgear, transformers and outgoing high voltage connection switchgear in preparation for the connection of high voltage power transmission to various localities on the Island
