QLD Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services
Safe Night Precincts Support Services
Details
Description
Under the Queensland Government’s Tackling Alcohol Fuelled Violence policy, the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services (DCCSDS) will invest in support services in designated Safe Night Precincts (SNP) as part of a broader cross-government response which incorporates strategies to reduce alcohol-fuelled violence and its effects and therefore creating safer entertainment precincts.
The purpose of SNP support services is to increase the safety and wellbeing of vulnerable people and those at risk of harm due to the influence of alcohol, by providing safety and support for patrons suffering the effects of alcohol.

Two service types under the SNP support service model include:
- Static rest and recovery centre or facility – provides a support, assistance and supervision within a safe space for vulnerable intoxicated individuals to rest and recover (to respond to people whose intoxication poses a risk to themselves or to others)
- Assertive outreach (foot or vehicular patrol) - provides rapid response and proactive intervention for patrons who are in crisis or where individual safety, personal health and well-being are threatened. Usually provided via foot patrol, however in larger precincts can also be via vehicle (to prevent incidents)
The service types being purchased in each SNP is based on identified need, see Section 6 – Service Particulars of the Request for Quote.
