Description
Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) is seeking offers for the removal and disposal of the 31m LOA steel motor ship MV Banks. MV Banks is an ex Royal Australian Navy (RAN) Explorer Class general purpose ship that was launched at Walkers Limited in Maryborough, Queensland in December 1959. The ship was decommissioned from the RAN in December 1982 and subsequently sold into private ownership.
MV Banks is currently stranded on a rocky foreshore on Daniel Point on the western side of Whitsunday Island just north of Cid Harbour, Queensland that is, approximate position 20° 14' 30" S / 148° 56' 16". It has been stranded there and subject to vandalism and looting since being driven ashore during Tropical Cyclone Debbie on 28 March 2017.
