VIC Department of Premier and Cabinet
Creation of an independent electoral roll of Aboriginal Victorians and provision of election services to establish a First Peoples' Assembly of Victoria
Details
Description
The Victorian Treaty Advancement Commission (VTAC) seeks one or more providers to establish an independent Aboriginal electoral roll of eligible voters and deliver election services for Aboriginal Victorians, including those living outside of Victoria, for the purposes of establishing a First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria (the Assembly).
VTAC was established in January 2018 with the primary role of establishing the Assembly by 2019.
The role of the Assembly is enshrined in the Advancing the Treaty Process with Aboriginal Victorians Act 2018 (Vic) (the Act), which requires the establishment of an Assembly to be the ‘sole representative of traditional owners and Aboriginal Victorians for the purpose of establishing elements necessary to support future treaty negotiations’.
The Assembly will consist of a combination of reserved and elected general seats. Only Victorian Traditional Owners may stand as candidates.
