Railcar Classes ADP, ADQ Bogie and Bogie Component Overhaul

1. Background

The Australind railcar service is a narrow gauge diesel multiple unit that services the towns between Perth and Bunbury twice daily. The fleet is comprised of three (3) driving and two (2) intermediate rail cars. Based on maintenance requirements, the Australind consist is a multiple of the five (5) railcars in the fleet.

The railcars which have a driving compartment (cab) are classified as ADP railcars whereas the railcars without a driving compartment are classified as ADQ railcars.

Both ADP and ADQ railcars have one (1) driving bogie and one (1) trailer bogie. The driving bogies are driven via two (2) Voith V15/19 axle final drives that are coupled to a Cummins KTA-19R traction engine via a Voith T 311r hydraulic transmission. The hydraulic transmission also comprises of a Voith KB 260/2 hydrodynamic brake that is not utilised in service i.e. it has been permanently disabled.

Braking is applied via a Davies & Metcalfe EBC5 brake system with wheel cheek mounted brake discs.

1. Scope of Services

The Australind railcar fleet has two (2) float bogies and four (4) bogies still in service that are coming to the end of their current service period. To maintain safe operation, the six (6) bogies require a major overhaul.

In addition to bogies, the Public Transport Authority (PTA) requires stock of overhauled driving wheelsets, trailer wheelsets and brake calipers for contingency. The PTA requires the successful Contractor to overhaul and assemble six (6) bogies, four (4) wheelsets and six (6) brake calipers to the specifications as outlined in this document
