Details
Description
The Future Research Vessel (FRV) Project is an initiative of the Australian Government under the Super Science Initiative with support from the Education Investment Fund (EIF) and is part of the Australia’s Marine National Facility (MNF), a blue-water research capability, funded by the Australian Government and operated by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Organisation (CSIRO).
The FRV is as a multi-purpose ocean-going marine research vessel, designed to adapt to and support a broad range of sophisticated scientific activities by multi-disciplinary teams engaged in climate, atmospheric, oceanographic, biological and geoscientific research.
The ship’s digital communication system consists of a VoIP PABX system for internal communications linked to a satellite system for off-ship communications including voice, email, internet, scientific data transfer, video hook-ups, and remote support.
The satellite communication system will consist of a high bandwidth, always-on primary system together with a smaller secondary global satellite communication system to provide redundancy.
