Description

In 2019, the WA Government announced an aspirational target to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 and is currently considering 2035 interim emission targets in response to public expectations for taking significant action to reduce emissions this decade. Transport was responsible for 14.6 Mt (18%) of WA’s GHG emissions, with road transport accounting for around 75% (approximately 10.9 Mt) of the sector’s emissions in 2022 (Paris Agreement inventory | ANGA). Transitioning to low and zero emission vehicles is a key part of meeting the net zero target.

Department of Transport is carrying out the project to develop an in-house fleet modeling capability. The fleet model is expected to address the size, composition and age profile of vehicle fleet in WA, both for a broad range of vehicle-type and fuel-types including petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid, battery-electric, hybrid and hydrogen (fuel cell electric). The fleet model is required to be validated by the base year fleet and forecast the future fleet annually up to 2051.
