Provision of Central Station Sewerage Treatment Plant Upgrade - Fraser Island

The Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM) is inviting offers for the upgrade of the Central Station Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP). The STP is located between the Central Station Day Use Areas and Campground on Fraser Island. The objective of this project is to undertake maintenance and required upgrades to ensure that our department is fulfilling its obligation to protect the environment.

The Central Station Sewerage Treatment Plant was installed to treat sewerage from the Central Station Day Use area and Campground toilet blocks. It was designed by Watertech and installed by Style Industries under tender in 2003/04 under EPA licence no CM0339.

Due to system difficulties, a report was undertaken in June 2008 by Bligh Tanner Consulting Engineers with improvement recommendations. Later that year, the required maintenance was undertaken and the following year, Gough Hybrid Systems were installed to the new toilet blocks in the Central Station Day Use Area, improving the input into the sewerage treatment system.

This upgrade and refurbishment is the final stage of the recommendations to improve the system.

The scope of work include:

1. Refurbish existing sewerage treatment plant
2. Install new sand filter
3. Refurbish existing sand filter
4. Upgrade sewerage treatment plant (including remove existing treatment equipment and install 2 new systems)
5. Testing and commissionning
