Description

The Lead Customer is proposing to establish a Standing Offer Arrangement to cover the provision of Moorings for the Epipelagic Echosounding of Krill (MEEK).

The moorings will monitor krill biomass at point locations in East Antarctica on a continuous basis through autonomous echosounders. Krill underpin the Southern Ocean ecosystem and MEEK also includes passive acoustic recorders for recording the presence of vocalising krill predators such as whales and seals.

Each mooring records data for an entire year and is then recovered and replaced with an identical refurbished mooring. MEEK moorings are intended to be placed at 5 key sites in East Antarctica.
