The overall objective of this contract is to replace approximately 600 metres of sewage outfall pipeline with new corrosion resistant pipeline in the same location, along open reserve and through existing easements in residential properties in Traralgon’s west end.
1.4 BACKGROUND
The ROS pipeline is a critical asset servicing approximately 35,000 domestic customers at this present time. The ROS pipeline discharges up to 35 ML per day of treated effluent from Opal (Australian Paper) and the domestic municipalities of Rosedale, Traralgon, Yallourn North, Glengarry, Toongabbie, Churchill, Yinnar, Boolarra and part of Morwell, from the Gippsland Water Factory (GWF) in Morwell out to Dutson Downs. The original pipeline was constructed in 1957 and is mostly reinforced concrete pipe. The main concern with the section of pipe to be replaced (Figure 1) is the known (2006 longitudinal split along the crown of the pipe) and estimated internal corrosion within the pipe, which could lead to another break.
