Geoscience Australia
Provision of passive seismic instrumentation
Details
Description
Geoscience Australia, as part of the Exploring for the Future initiative, is seeking to purchase over 100 broadband seismometers with a bandwidth of approximately 100 sec and data loggers for the purpose of temporary transportable array to image the crust and lithospheric mantle using passive seismic techniques. The obtained data will be used predominantly for ambient noise and full waveform inversion tomography to image the crust and lithospheric mantle.
One-year deployments of the transportable array are planned across remote northern Australia at a grid station spacing of approximately 55 km. Deployments are likely to utilise helicopters so weight, size and battery life are major considerations.
Geoscience Australia seeks suitable equipment and accessories against the following deployment scenario:
• 1 year deployment
• Minimal service runs
• Operate efficiently and effectively in the seasonally extreme climatic conditions of Australia (http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/)
• Operate with no mobile reception or access to mains power during deployment
