CSIRO
Wireless Seismic System
Details
Description
The requirement is for a general purpose seismic recording system for field/surface-based measurements, which may be used with seismic sources or in passive modes with real-time data monitoring.The equipment is required to Image and characterise the physical geology to depths of several km for both baseline purposes and monitoring of large volumes of CO2 migration.
The science research requirements are as follows;
* Low environmental footprint in the field with reduced cable
deployment
* Very dense or wide area sensor deployments possible
* Three component measurements for better characterisation of geology including fluids
* Scalable architecture, less sensors deployed or rental of extra units for very large projects
* Requires a small deployment team of less than 10 people compared to 100 normally used
* Operable in nearly all land environments
The equipment comprises the following components;
* Over 2000 field deployable sensor units with each less than 5 kg
* Central recording system electronics mounted in 19" rack
* 10 km of 5mm diameter cable plus base station units
* Field deployable wired sensors to supplement wireless nodes
* Small truck with cabin to house central recording system
