Description
The Australian Antarctic Strategy, and 20 year Action Plan sets out Australia’s national interests and vision for Australia’s future engagement in Antarctica. The Action Plan states that by 2021 the Government will establish an overland traverse and mobile inland station, and commence involvement in a major scientific research undertaking to retrieve a million-year old ice core.
To fulfil this commitment, the Department of the Environment and Energy’s Australian Antarctic Division (AAD), through its Modernisation Branch, has established the Traverse Capability Project (the Project).
The Project will establish a Deep Ice Core Drilling Capability, which will consist primarily of:
i.Deep Ice Coring Drill System Winch
ii.Drill Sonde
iii.Drill Tower and Support Components
iv.Field and Lab Instrumentation
Through this procurement, the Customer wishes to engage a suitable Supplier to deliver one new deep ice coring drill system winch, which will form part of the Project’s Million Year Ice Core (MYIC) capabilities.
