Joondalup Mental Health Sub Acute Services

The Mental Health Commission recognises the importance of individuals having an effective transition from in-patient settings to the community, and the value of having alternative community based options for people who need additional support to maintain their usual way of life.
The Mental Health Sub-acute Services (also commonly referred to as Intermediate Care) provides access to:

• ‘Step-down’ services: where a person no longer requires acute inpatient care, but has a need for additional supports that will assist them to re-establish themselves in the community; and
• ‘Step-up’ services: that provide additional support for a person to manage deterioration in their mental health, but where an admission to an inpatient facility is not warranted.
