Description
The Surface Water gauging station at Collie River East Branch - Coolangatta Farm is located approximately 11km east northeast from the Collie town site (Refer to Appendix 1 – Access Map).
The site began operation in 1968 measuring stream flow and water quality from the East Branch of the Collie River, which provides the majority of the water yield into the Wellington Dam.
Flow and water quality data collected at this site is used for;
- Management of, and research for reduction of, river salinity;
- Surface Water allocation on the Collie River; and
- Flood warning for the Collie town site.
The gauging station consists of a concrete weir, to provide a stable and consistent cross section for controlling the water flow, and a floatwell for transmitting the outside water level to instrumentation installed above the maximum water level.
