AFMA is requesting tenders for the disposal of vessel 'Wang Feng' by Tuesday 12 May 2009 close of business local Thursday Island time (EST).
The fishing vessel was forfeited to the Commonwealth of Australia under s.106 of the Fisheries Management Act 1991. This vessel is now the property of the Commonwealth and is offered for sale by tender in an 'as is where is' condition. The Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) will manage the disposal of this vessel. The 'Wang Feng' is located in Cairns, Queensland.
The vessel 'Wan Feng' was apprehended by an Australian patrol vessel 6.6 miles east of Ashmore Reef, Queensland on 23 November 2008. It was subsequently escorted into the port of Cairns, arriving on 26 November where it was anchored 5 nms from the mainland. The vessel's crew were removed and the vessel treated in accordance with AQIS guidelines and direction. The vessel was brought into Trinity Inlet and along side on 3 December 2008. On 22 Dec 2008 the 'Wan Feng' was removed from the water and placed in a boat storage yard in Portsmith, Cairns, Queensland where it remains.
