Description

The Public Transport Authority (PTA) operates a 25kV 50Hz electrified railway system in the Perth Metropolitan area. The power supply to Electric Multiple Units (EMU) runs over approximately 350km of wired track and is serviced by five railway electrical substations.

The PTA has initiated a project to select and implement a system for monitoring switchboard electrical integrity and protect against arc flash hazards. The PTA wishes to install a fixed system for Partial Discharge monitoring and Arc Protection as part of an upgrade of its existing Feeder Stations and Track Section Cabins (TSC).

This project comprises of installation and commissioning of an Arc Protection System and a Partial Discharge (PD) Monitoring System. The implementation of each system will be carried out in conjunction with the installation and commissioning of the other.
