Indigenous Healing Service - Newman

Communities is seeking to purchase an Indigenous Healing Service (IHS) to support and complement the implementation of the Safe Spaces program in Newman. The IHS provides a response to children and young people and their families affected by child sexual abuse and/or family and domestic violence, including those who have been reported to Communities through the Children and Community Services Act 2004. The IHS takes an Aboriginal perspective on health and wellbeing, encompassing physical, social, emotional, cultural and spiritual wellbeing to provide a holistic service response for vulnerable Aboriginal children and families. The safety of children and young people is enhanced when families and communities learn how child sexual abuse harms their children, families, kinship relations and community, and how to prevent future child sexual abuse. This includes the development of safety plans with family and significant others to keep children and young people safe. Children and young people who are responsible for, or at risk of, sexually abusing other children are assisted to accept responsibility for their behaviour and develop knowledge and skills to stop abuse occurring.
