Description

The Queensland State Government, through the Department of Innovation, Tourism Industry Development and the Commonwealth Games (DITID), has allocated funding to supply power and water to Great Keppel Island (GKI) which is located in the Southern Great Barrier Reef, off the coast of Yeppoon. One of the options being considered is to install a submarine HV connection from the mainland near Yeppoon across the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park to GKI. The Project is currently in final feasibility phase with a plan for construction works to be completed and the services operational by mid-2020.

A marine survey is required along the proposed route to determine the most suitable corridor for laying and burial of the submarine cable and potable water pipeline to a depth of 2.0 metres. Refer attached sketches showing the proposed route alignment and landfall sites at Haven Beach, Emu Park and Fishermans Beach, GKI. The two services would be laid and buried separately with a spacing of 20 metres.

The final route selected by the marine surveyor during the survey must be free of rock, reef or any other obstruction that will prevent burial of the submarine cable and potable water pipeline utilising high pressure water jetting and seabed fluidisation techniques.

Please note: Engagement of services through this RFQ is subject to final project and funding approval. Information from this RFQ will form part of the business case of the project.
If the project is approved, the Department will work with shortlisted candidates to progress this parcel of work.
