Supporting people with mental health conditions to access the justice system

Offers are invited by the State of Queensland (acting through the Department of Justice and Attorney-General) in relation to Invitation to Offer (ITO) 724.2122 for the establishment of a Contract for legal assistance services supporting people with mental health conditions to access the justice system 2021-25.

Notes
1) Through the 2021-22 Federal Budget, the Commonwealth Government allocated an additional $12.658 million over 2021-25 to Queensland for the delivery of legal assistance services to people with mental health conditions.

2) This funding has been made available through the National Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Plan (the Plan) to support early resolution of legal problems for those experiencing mental illness.

3) The Plan follows the Australian Government Productivity Commission’s release of its Inquiry Report into Mental Health (the Report) (published in November 2020). The Report discusses key influences on people’s mental health, examines the effect of mental health on people’s ability to participate and prosper in the community and workplace, and implications more broadly for Australia’s economy and productivity.

4) $4.220 million over 2021-25 is available to be allocated to Community Legal Centres through this tender process.

5) Community Legal Centres from across the State are encouraged to apply through this process.
