Description
New monitoring bores are required to provide valuable data and fill knowledge gaps that will complement and improve the Department of Water’s understanding of groundwater resources across Western Australia. This investigation is part of the Royalties for Regions groundwater investigation projects.
The Department intends to carry out drilling at six (6) sites. The investigation will lead to:
• Improved information on water availability
• Support regional development by making water an opportunity rather than a constraint.
This drilling programme will install six (6) shallow groundwater monitoring bores and ten (10) deep monitoring bores at six (6) sites, commencing July 2013. The program includes seven (7) deep monitoring bores and five (5) shallow monitoring bores to be completed on Wallal Downs Station, and three (3) deep monitoring bores and one (1) shallow monitoring bore to be completed on freehold land (Figure 1). All shallow monitoring bores are to be installed in the non-artesian Broome Sandstone aquifer. All deep monitoring bores are to be installed in the artesian Wallal Sandstone aquifer. As this drilling contributes to a regional investigation in an area of limited data, exact drilling depths are unknown; however, estimated drilling depths (based on existing information) range from 75m to 130m for the shallow observation bores, and 250m to 500m for the deep observation bores.
Note: The Contract and its projected start date are subject to the Principal obtaining necessary access clearances and permits.
