Description

The Office of Industrial Relations (OIR) require the services of suitable supplier to establish a new grant contract to deliver the Workers’ Psychological Support Service.

The purpose of the Workers’ Psychological Support Service (WPSS) is to offer Queensland workers experiencing a work-related primary or secondary psychological injury as well as their families and others affected by a serious work-related injury or fatality (the clients of the WPSS) free, confidential, personalised, non-technical and independent support and assistance, separate to their insurer, employer and the regulatory functions undertaken by Workers’ Compensation Regulatory Services (WCRS) (such as dispute resolution).

The WPSS assists its clients by:

  • offering assistance to engage and connect with specialised support services appropriate to their needs before, during and following the workers’ compensation claims process;
  • providing assistance to navigate the workers’ compensation system; and
  • providing initial informal counselling, mental health education and self-care strategies.

The WPSS is available to all Queensland clients regardless of their location in Queensland. It is available from before, during and after the compensation claims process—regardless of whether the claim is accepted or rejected, the status of the claim, or whether the person is engaged in a dispute resolution process. The WPSS may also provide support to clients who are yet to seek compensation for a work-related injury.

The WPSS is not a crisis line; rather, it connects clients with and assists them to navigate established community and other independent support services (as opposed to workplace interventions or services they are entitled to as part of claims management) that they may not have otherwise been aware of.

The function to administer the WPSS is delegated to Workers’ Compensation Regulatory Services (WCRS).
