Watermains Flushing

About the Request for Tender

This Request for Tender is for the water main cleaning (flushing) in multiple towns in North East Victoria. The purpose of the project is to improve the quality of water in the area and reduce the potential for discoloured water during periods of high water demand (increase in pipe velocity scouring the main in an unplanned manner). The scope of work includes the cleaning (flushing) of water mains in multiple towns in North East Victoria, as well as testing to confirm the effectiveness of the cleaning activity.
North East Water would like to engage an external contractor to lead this mains cleaning activity in close collaboration with the North East Water operations team(s).

PURPOSE

Planned cleaning of water supply mains through unidirectional flushing (or alternate North East Water approved method suggested by the contractor)

To improve the aesthetic quality of the water, improving the disinfectant residual, reducing bacterial regrowth, dislodging biofilm, removing sediment and deposits, controlling corrosion, restoring flows and pressures (and overall system capacity), eliminating taste and odour problems, and reducing disinfectant demand throughout the system. These benefits prolong the life expectancy of the distribution system and reduce the potential for waterborne disease outbreaks.

To limit amount of customer complaints during and after the mains cleaning activity

SCOPE
The contractor will be responsible for the flushing of water mains in multiple towns in North East Victoria, as well as testing to confirm the effectiveness of the flushing activity.
The nominated towns for flushing in 2023 are:
