Beecroft Weapons Range Communication Modernisation
Details
Description
Beecroft Weapons Range (BWR) is the only calibrated Naval Gunfire Support range on the Australian east coast. Whilst providing direct support to Navy for naval gunfire, BWR is also used by Air Force and Army for air-to ground practices including surface-to-air and surface-to-surface practices (artillery, mortar, grenade, small arms and UAV training). During training exercises, the communications equipment at the Bunker is required to communicate to ships (both military and civilian), and support staff within the Jervis Bay Peninsula.
The current communications equipment, including the HF, VHF and UHF transceivers, will reach obsolescence in the very near future. This is due to a lack of structured maintenance and limited support for replacement or repair. This Contract will include the acquisition of replacement communication equipment.
The site contains two towers which are fitted with communications antennas. Makeshift scaffolding is currently used to mount antennas to the antenna tower. This arrangement does not allow maintainers access to the antennas to conduct planned maintenance. Therefore, this Contract will include the removal of all existing scaffolding, with the addition of a means for safer maintainer access (such as ladders and personnel strong points). Contractors are permitted to either remediate the existing tower(s) at BWR, or commission new tower(s) or provide an alternate solution IAW Australian Standards.
