QLD Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women
Women's Re-entry Service - Southern Queensland Correctional Centre
Details
Description
The needs of women prisoners are profoundly different from those of male prisoners, with a significant difference relating to women’s past experience of violence. Repeated studies have shown 85% of female prisoners are victims of abuse, predominantly domestic, family or sexual violence.
Returning to a violent relationship following release from prison is an identified risk factor for reoffending. Having access to safe housing options as well as access to counselling and practical support is essential to minimising the risk of women returning to an abusive environment.
The provision of trauma and violence informed women’s services is essential to support women and divert them from entering or re-entering the criminal justice system.
The Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women (the department) is seeking to procure a Women’s Re-entry Service to deliver support services to women in the Southern Queensland Correctional Centre (SQCC) immediately prior to, and upon release from custody to support a successful return to community and prevent their re-entry into the criminal justice system. SQCC is located in Gatton.
The Re-entry Service will play a critical role in the daily operations of SQCC by supporting the movement of women through the correctional system.
