Description

The Western Australia (WA) State Government, in consultation with the community and road safety experts, have established a framework that will guide WA’s road safety journey over the next decade. The Driving Change - Road Safety Strategy 2020-2030 (the Strategy) sets a target to reduce the number of people fatally, severely or seriously injured by 50% to 70% by 2030, and to zero by 2050.

One of the initiatives introduced by the Road Safety Commission (RSC) (an independent unit of government sitting administratively within the WA Police Force, reporting to the Minister for Road Safety), which is contributing to the success of the Government’s goal to reduce the economic, social and emotional costs of road trauma in the State is the Road Safety Camera Strategy (RSCS). The RSCS provides, for the first-time, guiding principles for how the State will use safety cameras effectively and transparently to save lives on our roads.

The RSC and the WA Police Force are committed to achieving the road trauma reduction targets established in the Strategy. In line with this, the RSCS will leverage the advancements in road safety camera technologies to enable better driver behaviours.

Through this Request, an initial six (6) mobile safety camera trailers are sought which are able to detect multiple road traffic offence types simultaneously including:

  • Mobile phone use

  • Improper/not wearing a seatbelt

  • Speeding (average, spot and towed/heavy vehicle speed)

  • Unlicensed vehicles.

The technology will be trailer mounted and therefore able to be moved to various locations across the state of WA.

The above is to be provided 'as a service' which requires the Contractor to supply, operate and maintain the camera trailers. This includes the detection, capture, manual review and verification, and provision of incident packages directly to the State’s infringement processing system.
